Luxury Apartments a Hole in One for Fife Retiree

A delighted Fife resident has expressed his joy about his quality of life since downsizing to Scotland’s most prestigious postcode.

Gilford Bradley, 71, was one of the first residents to move into the luxury apartments at The Walled Gardens in St Andrews, just over two and a half years ago.

Tucked away just off the town centre, the development is the perfect location for those searching for a slice of coastal bliss while being able to enjoy spacious, hassle-free living.

Since moving into his new apartment, the former physical education teacher has been thoroughly impressed by the development and the surrounding area.

Gilford, originally from Cupar, said: “I came down and looked around the show home and thought it was absolutely great – it was just what I was looking for.

“It was nice, big and airy. I thought, this could be the place to be.

“One of the main attractions was that the apartment was well insulated, and the sound proofing seemed to be great. I seldom hear my neighbours.

“Everybody is in need of parking nowadays and that can usually be a real problem, but here there’s a secure space for everybody in the private car park.

“There’s also plenty to see right on the doorstep. The walks and the beaches are absolutely fantastic here, and they’re all close at hand. At the top of the road you have the shops and The Byre Theatre, too.”

Despite being immediately drawn to the apartments on visiting, it was in fact Gilford’s son who initially inspired him to take a look at St Andrews due to his love of golf.

Part of his decision-making process was even to have a chat with members of the golf club to establish if the location would be right for him.

He added: “I play golf with John, who’s on the top floor. Joyce, who’s above me here, is a golfer as well. There are a few of us at The Walled Gardens who go down and enjoy a round of golf which is nice.

“When I’m not golfing, my eight-year-old grandson, Jamie, comes to stay in my spare bedroom. He would actually come and stay with me and probably go to the beach every day if he could – that’s all he’s interested in.

“The beach and the harbour are only ten minutes from here so he has a great time. He also likes the golf practice range and to hit a wee golf ball here and there.”

While Bank of Scotland recently named St Andrews as the home of Scotland’s most expensive street, the happy buyer has benefitted from The Walled Gardens’ appealing shared ownership option.

With changing circumstances in mind, Gilford has the option to increase his share in ownership at any time which was crucial to his decision.

He said: “I looked at other properties, brand new properties around St. Andrews, but I wouldn’t have got them because they’re not the same standard as this.

“This has been ideal, this is perfect for me.”
