Get to Know: Rogue

St Andrew’s hidden gem, Rogue serves up the best seasonal, local produce within a classical cocktail bar setting.

Tucked away at the Westport End of South Street, the restaurant boasts an intimate, elegant atmosphere.

Whether it’s champagne and oysters, martinis and lobsters, or even something as simple as burgers and beers, you'll find something for everyone at Rogue.

We quizzed the Restaurant Supervisor, Ben Scott, on Rogue’s house favourites, their in-house distillery and the best place to catch a St Andrews’ sunset.

What is Rogue renowned for?

We are best known for our Scottish Seafood and dry aged beef. We are committed to using seasonal produce from the shores of Scotland which is ethically sourced in a sustainable environment.

Our menus change regularly according to the seasons, ensuring that customers always have the freshest and highest quality seafood on their plate. We dry age all our beef in-house for a minimum of 50 days, guaranteeing exceptional quality, flavour, and tenderness.

What is the house favourite?

Our sharing steaks are absolute showstoppers! Every day we have a selection of large porterhouses, tomahawks, and chateaubriands which we dry age and butcher ourselves. They are perfect to share between two people.

We also offer a seafood odyssey, which is popular with many of our guests and is a great way to try lots of the seafood we have on offer – from St Andrew’s Bay lobster to Pittenweem langoustines, we’ve got you covered.

What is the most interesting thing about Rogue?

Within Rogue we have our very own distillery which produces our no-nonsense gin, Felons.

Felons uses ten botanicals to deliver a luscious, fresh, citrus flavour and is perfect when paired with tonic and a lemon wheel, served chilled in a martini, or even just served no-frills, on the rocks. Our distillery is, in fact, the only gin distillery within the heart of St Andrews, and we are always happy to show our guests around (with a wee sample of course).

What is something many people don’t know about Rogue?

Rogue is the perfect venue for any occasion. Many may not know that we also have a private room (our Botanical Room) which guests can hire out for intimate dinners, business brunches, drinks receptions, and even gin-tasting experiences.

What is new for the business?

We have recently launched our new summer menu which showcases our commitment to seasonal and sustainable produce, and it’s already going down a treat! We a rarely standing still and never shy away from trying something new.

What can people expect when visiting you?

Guests at Rogue can expect fine dining within a relaxed, sophisticated environment. We take time getting to know our guests, delivering a personal service, accompanied by exceptional food and drinks.

What is it like to work in St Andrews?

There is always something new going on, and I love getting the opportunity to meet so many interesting people from across the world. It’s also wonderful to see so many familiar faces return to Rogue as well. There’s a real sense of community.

When is the best time to visit St Andrews?

The end of spring and into summer is the best time to visit St Andrews. Nothing compares to sitting in the sun with a Felons and Tonic watching the world go by.

What is your favourite thing about St Andrews?

I love the community here. It’s wonderful to walk along the street to work and recognise so many people. I also love all of our hidden gems. I’d recommend to take a walk down the Fife Coastal Path or Lade Braes and see what you can discover for yourself!

Where is the best view in St Andrews?

For the best view in St Andrews, head down to West Sands at sunset. Completely unparalleled. It’s beautiful to see the entire town lit up in golden hues.

What are the people of St Andrews like?

Everyone is fantastic! There’s such a mix of locals, students, and tourists here – it’s unlike any other place I have experienced.
